“The Bitch and Her Whelps”

A bitch, ready to whelp, earnestly begged a shepherd for a place where she might litter. When her request was granted, she besought permission to rear her puppies in the same spot. The shepherd again consented. But at last the bitch protected by the bodyguard of her whelps, who had now grown up and were able to defend themselves, asserted her exclusive right to the place and would not permit the shepherd to approach.

Vatican Official Criticizes ND Honor as ‘Greatest Scandal’
Cardinal Newman Society ^

 May 08, 2009

Archbishop Raymond Burke, Prefect of the Vatican’s highest court, the Apostolic Signatura, called on Catholics to “give an uncompromising witness” to the dignity of life and sharply criticized the University of Notre Dame for its planned honor for pro-abortion President Barack Obama during an address this morning to the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC.

“The faithful in the Church and especially Catholics in America are blessed to have a shepherd such as Archbishop Burke reminding us of our responsibilities as disciples of Christ to always and everywhere proclaim the Truth,” said Patrick J. Reilly, president of The Cardinal Newman Society.

The archbishop began his address by noting that he has “the deepest concern for our nation,” and later implored Catholics to be aware of the “godless secularism and relativism” that underlie the Culture of Death. He noted that “we would be right to be discouraged if this were just up to us,” and talked about the importance of Eucharistic Adoration and praying the Rosary.

Commenting on the ongoing scandal of Notre Dame’s planned honor for President Obama, Archbishop Burke received a standing ovation from the crowd of more than 1,200 when he called it “rightly the source of the greatest scandal.”

He also said that “in a culture marked by widespread and ingrained confusion about the most fundamental teachings of the moral law, our Catholic schools and universities must be beacons of truth and right conduct.”

Archbishop Burke added that if “we as individuals are not willing to accept the burdens” of the Catholic witness to life, “we are not worthy of the name Catholic.”

Tom Hoopes, editor of the National Catholic Register interviewed Archbishop Burke about Notre Dame last night and when asked what the Church should do about Notre Dame the archbishop responded:

“What it should do is have Notre Dame come clean. Is it Catholic or isn’t it? A Catholic institution, a Catholic university, cannot give honors to someone who is a promoter of things that are opposed to the most fundamental beliefs of Catholics, and so that’s what needs to happen.”

When asked by Hoopes how the Church could do this, Archbishop Burke said:

“There’s an apostolic constitution, Ex corde Ecclesiae, which sets forth the requirements for a university to have the name Catholic. I think that Notre Dame has to either follow those norms or say ‘We’re not a Catholic university anymore.’”

Cruz Calls on President to Release Pentagon Report on Russian Missile Violation

Congress needs risk assessment for foreign affairs role

BY: Bill Gertz
August 24, 2015 5:00 am

The White House should immediately provide Congress with a Pentagon report assessing the risks to U.S. security posed by Russia’s violation of an intermediate-range missile treaty, according to Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas).

“I am deeply concerned that the Obama administration has been withholding information it is obligated to provide to Congress to protect what it considers to be the president’s ‘legacy achievements’—such as New START and the recent nuclear deal with Iran,” Cruz, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, told the Washington Free Beacon.

The senator, a Republican presidential candidate, wrote to President Obama on Friday requesting that he release a classified report produced by the office of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. Martin Dempsey, on Moscow’s breach of the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

“I request that you lift your embargo on this report immediately,” he stated, asking for a response no later than Sept. 1.

The Free Beacon first reported Aug. 11 that the White House is blocking the report that is said to outline possible U.S. responses to the INF treaty violation.

The State Department publicly confirmed the treaty violation last year in an annual compliance report. Details of the violation have not been made public although U.S. officials say that it involves testing of a cruise missile called the R-500.

A ground-launched cruise missile version of Russia’s new SSN-30A long-range anti-ship missile is also said to violate the INF treaty, according to defense officials.

The treaty prohibits deploying or testing ballistic or cruise missiles with ranges between 310 miles and 3,418 miles. Its passage led to the withdrawal of then-Soviet SS-20, SS-4, and SS-5 missiles from Europe and the elimination of U.S. Pershing II and ground-launched cruise missiles.

Rep. Mike Rogers (R., Ala.), chairman of the House Armed Services subcommittee on strategic forces, first disclosed in a speech in July that the White House was holding up the INF report.

Rogers said that the report was produced after Obama directed the Joint Chiefs chairman to develop options in response to the INF breach. He called the report necessary for legislation to support steps to counter the treaty violation.

The Pentagon’s proposed options were provided to the president in December, Rogers said.

Administration officials have provided no details on the options being considered but have said that they include bolstering missile defenses and deploying new nuclear-capable missiles.

White House spokesman Myles Caggins declined to comment on the Aug. 21 letter from Cruz.

Earlier this month, a senior White House official said the United States is considering diplomatic, economic, and military responses to the INF treaty violation.

Joint Chiefs spokesman Greg Hicks said the assessment is secret and will not be released to the public. The Pentagon’s proposed actions regarding the Russian breach of the treaty include “preserving military response options—but no decision has been made with regard to the type of response, if any,” Hicks said.

In his letter Cruz said that holding up the INF report is “withholding information from Congress pertinent to executing its constitutional statutory role in foreign affairs.”

Cruz also said that despite the State Department declaring Moscow to be in violation of the accord, there have been concerns about Russian treaty compliance since 2008 that appear not to have been shared with the Senate during debate on the 2010 New START arms treaty.

“Only in late 2011, long after Congress voted on the New START treaty, did your administration conclude that the R-500 was an official compliance concern,” Cruz stated.

The letter also noted that in 2011, then-Sen. John Kerry told a closed-door hearing that “we’re not going to pass another treaty in the U.S. Senate if our colleagues are sitting up here knowing somebody is cheating.”

Cruz concluded: “The Senate’s advice and consent power is a pivotal element of a constitutional and prudent foreign policy, but it cannot be exercised if your administration does not act in good faith.”

“Grave concerns of Russian compliance exist beyond the R-500 cruise missile, as Russia has potentially mislabeled intermediate missiles as intercontinental ballistic missiles, and fielded air defense systems that possess ground-to-ground ballistic capability,” he added.

“If true, these would not only constitute clear violations of the INF treaty, but present a material threat to the United States and our allies.”

Cruz said the risk assessment is needed in developing strategic responses by the United States.

In an email, Cruz noted that the administration similarly delayed release of the State Department’s annual report on Tehran’s human rights abuses in order to avoid upsetting negotiations with Iran on the nuclear deal.

That human rights report was only made public “once we threatened to cut [the State Department’s] budget,” he said.

“Now the Defense Department is withholding a report that details disturbing Russian violations of the INF Treaty that could undermine the very premise of New START,” Cruz said.

The administration was reluctant to admit that Moscow was not negotiating in good faith, “but the fact of the matter is the administration constrained America’s ability to deploy missile defense systems to protect our NATO allies and in return the Russians are blatantly testing the sorts of weapons that would threaten them,” he noted.

“Congress, and the American people, deserve to know the truth about what turns out to be yet another terrible Obama administration deal with a hostile regime that means us harm,” Cruz said of the Iranian nuclear accord, now under review by Congress.

Secure the Border, enforce our laws

Do you think President Obama is abusing Presidential “Executive Power” by side-stepping the legislative process to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens?
Dear Fellow American,

Do you think President Obama is abusing Presidential “Executive Power” by side-stepping the legislative process to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens?

If so, I urge you to complete the U.S. Citizen Straw Poll on the Repeal Executive Amnesty Act of 2015 — now pending in the U.S. Senate and House – along with the Petitions to your two U.S. Senators and Congressman . . . today if possible.

It will take only a few minutes of your time to complete.

Make no mistake. The Obama Administration’s payoff to its illegal alien allies who helped him win in 2008 and 2012 — and will be key to helping elect another far-Left “progressive” president in 2016 — will take a devastating economic toll on America and taxpayers for years to come.

In a nutshell, here’s the situation and why your participation in this unprecedented Straw Poll is urgently needed today:

·         Prior to the 2012 Elections, the Obama Administration, side-stepped the legislative process by “Executive Power” and instructed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to simply stop deporting millions of illegal aliens.

·         They also instructed ICE to set up a special, taxpayer-funded HOTLINE to help suspected illegal alien lawbreakers. It is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!

·         They issued work authorizations to hundreds of thousands of illegals, allowing them to compete for American jobs.

Clearly, this promoted Obama’s re-election in 2012. He is now committed to continue to bypass Congress by exploiting “Executive Power” – to appease the Hispanic voting bloc for the 2016 Presidential Election.

He wants to ensure the presidency will remain under the control of Democrat “progressives” so America will continue on the socialist course he set during his own presidency.

But passage of the Repeal Executive Amnesty Act of 2015, introduced in the U.S. Senate as bill S 129 and the U.S. House as bill HR 191 is already gaining support with 41 co-sponsors. But we can’t get the votes to pass it without your pressure on your representatives.

Here’s what the Repeal Executive Amnesty Act of 2015 will do:

·         Prohibit the DHS or any other agency from using funds to “implement, administer, enforce or carry out” any amnesty policies through Executive Actions;

·         Protect American workers – our families and friends – by preventing millions of illegals from taking jobs sought by American citizens;

·         Protects the pocketbooks of American taxpayers like you by barring illegal aliens from accessing Social Security, Medicare and ObamaCare benefits;

·         And it ends the incentives for smuggling minors into the U.S.

Make no mistake. Unless you and I, and millions of like-minded Americans, mobilize in massive numbers to force Congress to stop Obama’s amnesty, it will continue to strip BILLIONS of dollars per year from taxpayers for illegals’ FREE health care, welfare, unemployment payments, public housing and other taxpayer-funded benefits – and continue to cost millions of Americans’ jobs.

Not only does it continue the Left’s expansion of the “welfare state” in America, but it rewards illegal aliens who have been living off the public trough.

Now many Americans didn’t know about Obama’s “backdoor” amnesty prior to his 2012 re-election – or know exactly what’s at stake for the long-term of our American Republic.

That’s why we here at The Conservative Caucus (TCC) are spearheading this national grassroots citizens’ campaign to challenge and stop what the Obama Administration is doing.

Your participation in
this U.S. Citizen Straw Poll and Petition campaign, along with the participation of others I’m emailing today, can play a major role to help pass this critical legislation to stop Obama from abusing his Executive Power over the American majority (and over our elected Representatives in Congress who strongly oppose amnesty for illegal aliens).

I hope you will do your part today.

I think you’ll agree, we simply cannot sit back and do nothing to stop this blatant abuse of Executive Power for improper political gain.

That’s why I’m emailing you and other citizens in your area who I think would most likely help in this effort.

For 41 years, The Conservative Caucus (TCC), a project of Americans for Constitutional Liberty (ACL), has been one of the leading grassroots, citizen-action group defending American liberty and independence.

·         We have led the fight against encroachment by the anti-American UN and other globalist bureaucracies.

·         We have been instrumental in stopping such dangerous proposals as the UN “Law of the Sea Treaty.”

·         When Congress was considering legislation in 2013 to “legalize” millions of illegal aliens, TCC was instrumental in the fight that forced our adversaries to abandon the legislation.

Make no mistake. Our ongoing fight to stop the Obama Administration’s abuse of Executive Power by implementing a massive Amnesty for millions of illegal aliens could well be the most hard-fought in TCC’s long history of protecting, from assault, our representative form of government, our Constitution and our freedoms.

In fact, only with your support, along with help from the massive number of concerned Americans we are contacting to join with us, can we stop this unprecedented abuse of power by the Executive branch … and its total disregard for the separation of powers set forth in our Constitution.

You see, with an election that swept in an unprecedented number of constitutional stalwarts who are willing to stand up to Obama and the far-Left that is destroying our country, the American voter wields more power than ever – from now until the next Presidential Election in 2016. Remember, politicians are all about getting votes, so they can keep their jobs.

We must use this opportunity to make it clear, in no uncertain terms, we expect Congress to pass the Repeal Executive Amnesty Act of 2015 to stop the Obama Administration’s abuse of “Executive Power” for political gain.

That is exactly what your Straw Poll and Petitions can help do.

We will tabulate and publish the results for every Member of Congress and the media to send a major statement on how voters back home stand on this issue . . . and a tidal wave of signed petitions cannot be ignored!

These U.S. Citizen Straw Polls and Petitions provide TANGIBLE evidence of the sentiment of constituents back home. So please do your part by completing yours.

When you do, I hope you will donate as much as you can afford to help us fund this unprecedented effort to reach like-minded citizens in your hometown and across the nation.

This kind of massive national campaign to reach millions of Americans in their mailboxes with these U.S. Citizen Straw Polls and Petitions is costly for a non-profit organization such as ours.

But not as costly as the price our country and we taxpayers will pay, both socially and economically, if we let Obama bypass Congress and grant massive amnesties to far-Left-loving illegal alien activists and get away with purposely and willfully not enforcing America’s immigration laws for their own political gain.

Now my forebears and yours entered America legally. They understood that through hard work, obeying the law and contributing to our nation’s good, they would EARN the privilege of citizenship in this great land of opportunity.

But, since the 60’s, our borders have become a floodgate for millions who see America as nothing more than a vast welfare state – who think nothing of breaking our laws and living off you and me and other taxpayers.

Using fake Social Security cards, drivers’ licenses and birth certificates, they have been costing taxpayers BILLIONS OF DOLLARS – and even voting in our elections for President, Congress and local candidates.

For decades pro-amnesty politicians kept sending the message to the world: “Sneak into our country and we’ll reward you with exemption from our laws, welfare financed by our taxpayers – and, if you can get fake documents – even the ability to vote in our elections!”

You might recall in 1986 Congress passed an amnesty for all illegals who were clever enough to avoid deportation for at least 5 years – and it only made our illegal immigration problems worse.

Back then, most Americans only heard about this AFTER it was passed.

But the American public is now wise to the fact that amnesties only worsen the problem – or illegal immigration would not be the huge economic, social and national security crisis it is today!

Until Obama took office, the taxpaying majority was able to hold Congress’ feet to the fire against more amnesties.

As a result the Obama Administration resorted to the abuse of Executive Power to bypass Congress, clearly an abuse of the separation of powers and our representative form of government.

That’s how determined they were to win favor with pro-amnesty voters to ensure Barack Obama’s re-election – and they are doing even more so his legacy lives on by ensuring another Leftist, “progressive” Democrat is elected in 2016 – unless we, the taxpaying majority, stand together to stop them.

While we here at The Conservative Caucus (TCC) will continue the battle for America to secure our borders from illegal lawbreakers our #1 mission is to stop the Administration’s “backdoor” amnesty for the illegals who are already here, to force Congress to defund his massive amnesty by Executive Power – and to keep pushing the court battles that will show Obama has abused his constitutional authority and stop his abuse of power dead in its tracks.

If we fail, this political payback to help Democrat progressives win the White House again in 2016 with the huge pro-amnesty vote will mean there will be no end to out-of-control spending, more socialist Big Government programs . . . and the continued erosion of the liberties we hold dear.

You can believe Obama’s well-oiled political machine and such pro-immigration groups such as La Raza will be taking to the streets to make sure they get massive numbers of illegals registered to vote in the 2016 Presidential Election (you may know that voter fraud by illegals has proven to be a well-documented problem).

Can I count on you to help us stop this blatant abuse of Executive Power? I hope so.

Already many concerned Senators and Congressmen are outraged the Obama Administration would side-step Congress to grant illegal aliens “amnesty” by Executive Power and support HR 191 and S 129.

They have introduced legislation to stop his flagrant abuse of power. We must get behind them – and get all our representatives behind this effort as well.

That’s where our Straw Polls and Petitions can be so effective.

Remember, the power of public opinion is greatest when Members of Congress have re-election on their minds –
but only if enough folks such as you participate in this kind of pro-citizen, grassroots project.

For us to succeed, we must get our Straw Polls and Petitions to at least 1 million citizens very quickly – within the next 6 weeks if possible. In the coming months, we will need to reach even more people – as Congress debates whether to allow the President to bypass Congress and grant amnesty to illegal aliens – or whether to use the “power of the purse” to defund this amnesty.

Remember: the only way we can fund this campaign is if you and enough other concerned Americans are willing to pitch in and help.

So, when you complete your Straw Poll and Petitions I hope you will send along the most generous contribution you can afford to help us reach others.

The Conservative Caucus (TCC) a project of Americans for Constitutional Liberty (ACL) is a non-profit citizens’ grassroots action organization, so our funds are limited and carefully spent. Today I am being very careful to contact only dedicated people, like you, who would be most likely to help.

If you can contribute $15, $25, $50 or even $100 or more I would be grateful. But whatever you can afford, your gift will be put to use right awaybecause we must work quickly.

Just like me, you’re probably asked to give to many worthy causes. So our biggest danger is if too many people think their individual participation won’t make a difference.

The Conservative Caucus’ 41 year history of fighting key battles gives us the know-how and unique experience to succeed, but only if enough like-minded citizens do their part. I hope you will.

There is so much at stake for you, your family and our nation’s future. So please let me hear back from you today.

Yours to stop amnesty for illegal aliens by Obama’s abuse of “Executive Power,”

Peter J. Thomas
Chairman

P.S. Remember, most Americans oppose the Obama Administration bypassing Congress (and our legislative process), providing “amnesty” by Presidential “Executive Power.” They’ve opposed his orders to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials to simply stop deporting millions of illegal aliens – as a political payback to appease and increase the huge pro-amnesty voting bloc.

This outrageous and unprecedented move to appease the powerful Hispanic voting bloc helped Barack Obama get re-elected in 2012. And his abuse of his Executive Power by granting amnesty to 5+ million illegal aliens is only the first step to ensure another Leftist president is elected in 2016 to carry on his legacy – despite the social and economic toll of BILLIONS of dollars each year it will cost us taxpayers in free health care, unemployment subsidies, public housing, Social Security, Medicare and other taxpayer-funded benefits.

America’s 32 WORST Colleges PERIOD In 2015 When You Consider Absolutely Everything That Matters

ERIC OWENS

The Daily Caller has already provided the epoch-making list of the best colleges in America for 2015 when you consider absolutely everything that matters.(RELATED: The 53 Best Colleges In America PERIOD)

Now, it’s once again time for the world to know about the worst colleges in America. Period.

The one — large — caveat about the colleges and universities on this list is that they certainly aren’t the lousiest schools from a purely academic standpoint. You are highly likely to find lesser-caliber coursework at the community college in your town, for example, or at obscure public universities with two or more cardinal directions in their names.

These schools are not community colleges or directional schools, though. They are, in fact, national and notable.

The schools on this list are here because they are the polar opposites of the 53 schools on TheDC’s list of the best colleges. They tend to score low in several of the 10 overall categories.

A few are here because students regard the academics as mediocre, for example, or because the schools can’t seem to graduate students in four years, or because they’ll admit pretty much anyone with a pulse.

While some of these schools are relatively affordable, others are ridiculously expensive. The cost of a college education in the United States today is utterly out of hand. Colleges and universities have bloated their administrative staffs with entirely too many useless bureaucrats. They have built palatial dorms and gleaming athletic facilities — passing the cost right along to you, the education consumer. As a result, America’s college graduates are in debt to America’s bankers to the tune of $1.2 trillion.

Many of the schools on this list have landed here because the social life is dreadful. The ability to have a good time around cool people is critical. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. College has become a four-year (or five-year, of six-year) party. You may as well join the fun. And you should consider the local quality of life. If there’s nothing to do but go to Walmart or you are likely to get mugged, that matters.

A majority of the colleges and universities here — almost 60 percent — are located in just five populous, highly bureaucratic states. Pennsylvania and Massachusetts have two schools. New Jersey and Illinois have three. Amazingly, New York contains nine.

At the same time, half a dozen schools on the list are public universities in big, square, Western states where ruggedness and rural life predominate.

Note also that several schools here — almost 30 percent — generally emphasize science and engineering. That’s no coincidence. Students at engineering schools are notoriously unhappy with their heavy workloads and sometimes frustrated with their social lives. If they are unhappy, the odds are you’ll also be unhappy.

Of course, graduates of science and engineering schools tend to obtain science and engineering degrees. At that point, they often end up considerably happier and wealthier than, say, some anthropology major at a liberal arts college. Building bridges beats working at Starbucks by most objective measures. But that’s after — not during — school.

This year’s list also captures return on investment, which is another big deal. You want to get a job when you get out of college, and you want to have a successful career that pays the bills and makes you happy. Return on investment is especially important to consider given the perpetually sluggish economy and weak job market. It’s a problem now. It could very well be a problem a few years from now.

The schools on this year’s worst colleges list are all over the place on return on investment as TheDC has measured it. Some are impressive. Others are not. There is no clear theme.

The full list is below. Just scroll down, or take a minute to read about the various parts of the list first.

Overall, there are no fewer than 10 categories. For academics, there is anoverall academic rating, a professor-quality rating and a rating for the school’s ability to graduate freshmen in four years (a good thing). There’s also an admission rating. The harder the school is to get into, the higher this rating is.

Beyond academics, there is a social life rating, a student-attractiveness rating, and — new for 2015 — separate ratings for the campus and for thesurrounding area. An idyllic, perfectly collegiate campus can be in the middle of nowhere. A dump of a campus can be located in a great place.

There is, of course, a rating for the cost of tuition and fees, which can really vary from school to school, and which can really affect your life later on if you take on a bunch of debt. (Please don’t.)

New for this year is a score for return on investment. For various reasons, there are certain schools that are a golden ticket for the rest of your life. That may be sad and wrong and emblematic of a caste system, but it’s true.

Finally, in a bonus category, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) provides a database tracking the frequently draconian speech policies at colleges and universities across the country. Fewer than two dozen receive a “green light” rating, meaning that the administration does not seriously imperil free speech on campus.

Exactly none of the 32 schools on this list has received a green-light rating from FIRE.

For each of well over 350 colleges and universities, TheDC has given each one a score in each category. The scores range between 4.00 and 0.00 — just like a typical grade-point average.

In the list below, these ratings are rounded to the nearest half and presented as star ratings.

For each school’s grand total, TheDC just added up each raw score. Drexel University is thus the worst school in the land for 2015, with a measly total raw score of just 19.30 — just over half the score for the best school in the land: the University of Virginia (37.40).

There’s more about how the list are formulated if you scroll past the list itself.

THE “TOP” 10

THE REST

Rankings notes:

The rating for the cost of tuition and fees assumes in-state tuition for public schools. As you certainly know, if you go to a public school in a state where you can’t claim residency, your tuition price is often astronomically higher. Also, cost does not include room and board, books and spending cash. The theory is that these costs are largely a wash because you have to eat, sleep somewhere and buy books wherever you attend college. Obviously, though, the cost of living in, say, Philadelphia, Pa. is considerably higher than it is in Vermillion, S.D.

For social, lifecampus and localestudent hotness and the quality of professors, TheDC has relied heavily on an amalgamation of information at various websites featuring student-generated information about schools. For location and the campus, factual information is also part of the equation.

The overall rating for academics is a composite of student-generated data and hard data.

The data for four-year graduation rates and admission rates is all hard data.

For return on investment, the measurement is a proxy. It’s a combination of the rate of alumni giving and other data.

Interestingly, by the way, the student-generated data appears to be self-inflating over time. Students are giving their professors great marks overall these days, for example. Students also appear to be rating themselves are more and more attractive.

Finally, again, the raw score is the cumulative raw score for a school’s standing in each of the 10 categories. (Note that there are some ties. It happens. The tiebreaker is purely TheDC’s preference.)
